The 2024 General Election Began Last Night
By Thomas Anderson
One thing I’ve learned about politically active, deep pocketed, moneyed interests, in American politics is they always end up supporting the eventual winner of any election. This isn’t as simple as it sounds. Today’s media environment doesn’t accurately reflect modern political activities and strategies. The Ron DeSantis campaign is a great example. The deep pocket, moneyed interest donors to DeSantis and his Super Pac used his Super Pac to support Donald Trump by spinning the DeSantis campaign off into extreme social stances on hot button issues like race, and sexual orientation. Most political analysts either have no clue how sophisticated today’s political maneuvers are, or they’re actively taking part in the spin to create a dis-reality where the only way candidates can be reported as being supported is if the money being used is tagged as supporting cash by the organization filing the paperwork. Either way the American people are operating in a disorienting political environment where all the traditional norms have been torn to shreds and the new norms aren’t being covered by the media or any platform of significance.
Enter Nikki Haley’s announcement that she will continue her campaign after coming in second place in New Hampshire. The results of New Hampshire show she doesn’t have a chance against Trump and the best she can hope for is a strong showing in her home state to garner some kind of position in the next administration if Trump wins. So, it makes sense for her personally to stay in the race, she may even do well enough to have a real shot at being Trump’s VP. The question is, how does this make sense for the deep pocketed, moneyed interest donors supporting her on the kamikaze charge?
