There was a time when federal candidates Leadership PACs had strict contribution limits that couldn’t be sidestepped through another connected PAC such as a State PAC.  Leadership PACs are unique and notorious for being more like lobbyist honeypots.  They’re basically used by powerful elected officials who throw lavish fundraisers for the primary purpose of creating and maintaining a political patronage machine funded by special interests and billionaires.  Against this backdrop, a United States Senator out of the State of Nevada has gotten the FEC to allow a doubling of the money Leadership PACs can take in after requesting an advisory opinion late last year.
