As the sun sets on a midweek evening, all eyes will be glued to television screens across America. The GOP debate night is poised to be more than just a political showdown; it may well become an autopsy of a party grappling with identity and purpose. Here, in the hallowed debate halls, we will witness the Four Horsemen that may decide the fate of the Grand Old Party: Inflation, Immigration, Trump, and Race.

1. Inflation: The ACE of the Debate

Biden's administration may well be remembered for many things, but chief among them will be the inflation it presided over. As prices skyrocket, the everyday American feels the pinch. Their woes are more than just dinner table grievances; they are potent political weapons. Enter the GOP candidates, each armed with their perspective and solution on the issue. Inflation, then, is not just a topic for debate—it is the golden ticket. The candidate who emerges as the most credible and visionary on this matter will likely seal their status as the debate's victor.

Yet, as they say in politics, there are no accidents. A memo from Biden's camp suggests the debate will be an "extreme Maga Night," with Trump as the central figure. If true, Biden may gain the most, diverting attention from the inflation issue that haunts his administration. But the GOP contenders must tread carefully; while the Trump topic is tempting, the real meat lies in discussing the economy's state.

2. Immigration: The Rabbit Hole

This issue, perhaps more than any other, tests the GOP's ability to navigate a sensitive topic. The party stands at a crossroads: it can either redefine its stance or double down on dated rhetoric. The debate can easily descend into negative racial stereotypes, painting the party as tone-deaf or worse, outright racist. For candidates, the challenge is clear—address the issue without alienating vast swaths of voters.

3. Trump: The Red Herring
