Call for a Senate Investigation into Egyptian Involvement in the Murder of Jamal Khashoggi
October 2, 2025
The Honorable Lindsey Graham
United States Senate
211 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Graham,
Re: Call for a Senate Investigation into Egyptian Involvement in the Murder of Jamal Khashoggi
As this week marks the seventh anniversary of the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, I write to urge you, as a senior member of the United States Senate, to support a renewed and comprehensive investigation into the true circumstances surrounding his death.
For years, the narrative surrounding Mr. Khashoggi’s murder has centered solely on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Yet recent revelations indicate that Egyptian officials—working in concert with former Senator Robert Menendez, now convicted on corruption charges—may have played a critical role in both facilitating and covering up the crime.
Evidence presented during Menendez’s trial showed that, in exchange for bribes, he provided sensitive U.S. government information to Egyptian officials and actively thwarted the Senate’s first attempts to question those same officials about Khashoggi’s murder. Moreover, intelligence assessments now suggest that drugs provided by Egyptian operatives contributed directly to Mr. Khashoggi’s killing. Despite this, the Egyptian angle has never been fully investigated or reported to the American people.
This matter strikes at the core of congressional responsibility. If a sitting U.S. Senator, acting as a foreign agent, obstructed oversight of a journalist’s assassination, then both our democracy and our credibility abroad have been gravely compromised. An inquiry is needed not only to hold foreign actors accountable, but also to restore trust in our institutions and ensure that such corruption can never again distort U.S. policy.
I respectfully ask that you call for hearings to examine:
1. The extent of Egyptian involvement in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.
2. The role played by former Senator Robert Menendez in obstructing prior Senate inquiries.
3. The implications for U.S. national security and foreign policy when elected officials are compromised by foreign powers.
The murder of a journalist cannot be allowed to be buried beneath layers of corruption and false narratives. A renewed Senate investigation would honor the principles of justice, transparency, and accountability that America must uphold at home and abroad.
Thank you for your service and for your attention to this urgent matter. I would appreciate a response and any indication of how your office intends to proceed.
Respectfully,
Thomas Jason Anderson
