The harrowing racially motivated attack in Jacksonville, Florida, where three Black Americans were tragically killed by a white supremacist, underscores the urgent need for action at the highest levels of government. It is imperative for Gov. Ron DeSantis to acknowledge the role his policies and rhetoric have played in perpetuating violence against Black people in Florida and to take concrete steps to address this crisis.
The Jacksonville shooting is part of a troubling trend of racially motivated attacks against Black people in the United States, from the Charleston church shooting in 2015 to the Buffalo supermarket attack in 2022. This trend reflects the persistence of white supremacy and racial hatred in our society, despite efforts to combat it.
